Adobe Commerce · Product configurator engineering
A four-region configurator that only offers products the factory can build.
Big Ass Fans serves residential, commercial, and industrial buyers through one Adobe Commerce Cloud estate spanning the United States, Canada, Australia, and Singapore. DevTeamPro contributed storefront and configurator enhancements within the client’s established engineering process.

Complexity lived between the systems.
A premium ceiling fan is not a single SKU. Diameter, airfoil finish, hardware finish, downrod, lighting, lens cover, and controls form thousands of possible combinations—but only a subset can be manufactured. Native configurable-product behavior could not express every dependency cleanly, and the rules had to remain consistent across four localized storefronts.
02 · What we delivered
Built around the operating reality.
- Sequenced finish, diameter, downrod, lighting, lens, and control selections so each decision narrows the valid choices that follow.
- Displayed lens-cover options only when a compatible downlight was selected and removed combinations with no valid price or manufacturable outcome.
- Derived the included downrod from an attribute on the selected simple SKU, then offered priced upgrades with ceiling-height guidance for longer lengths.
- Built and maintained custom modules and plugins for essentials and cross-sell options, configurable swatch rendering, expandable attributes, and controller behavior.
- Kept per-store themes, CSS, templates, and localization aligned across the United States, Canada, Australia, and Singapore.
- Improved Amasty Shop By and configurable-product navigation by removing zero-count filters and repairing search and category-page behavior.
- Supported Adobe Commerce B2B requisition lists, Multi-Source Inventory, and checkout fixes informed by production monitoring.
03 · Outcome
A product-ordering system—not a collection of dropdowns.
The configurator guides customers through real manufacturing constraints instead of allowing impossible builds. Option dependencies, included components, paid upgrades, B2B behavior, inventory, checkout, and four regional experiences operate within one maintainable Adobe Commerce footprint.
Talk through a similar challenge →“A configurator earns its value when it prevents impossible products—not merely when it displays options.”
